Successful People Are Flexible To Changes

When you look at people who are successful, one of the traits you see is that they are flexible to changes.

I believe that success leaves clues, and if we watch what the successful people are doing, we can learn a lot from them.

It doesn’t matter whether they’re in your business or not.  Successful people are successful because of the things they do.

Successful people are flexible to changes.

It’s so easy to get stuck in our comfort zone.

And so many people want to hang onto their old ways and stay where they are comfortable.

And then when changes present themselves, they find they’re unable to adapt.

They’re often so resistant to change that they’ll give up when something deviates from their original plan.

Others are so unprepared for change that they can’t adapt quick enough.

In order to be successful, you need to flexible enough so that you can adapt to change and work with the ebb and flow of things.

I’ve seen this a lot in my Avon business.

As you may have heard, about a year ago, Avon was purchased by LG Home & Health.

And of course, the new company went through our entire business and changed what they needed to, to make it work for them.

That’s just exactly what I would have done had I just purchased a company. 

A lot of Avon Reps couldn’t handle that change and have left the company.

I kind of feel sorry for them because even though things are changing, dramatically in some cases, I see that these changes are going to make all of us more successful overall.

And if they jump to another company, do you seriously think that company won’t have changes at some point!?

Maybe you’ve had something like that happen in your business if you have a business, or in your job, or in your life.

I’ve been in jobs where that’s happened too.  You get a new boss and they want everything done differently. We’ve all been there, right!? 

And, I also have customers who are upset that Avon is discontinuing products and bringing in new ones.

I get it.  It seems like every time I find a product I love, even in the grocery story, it gets discontinued.

And I hate that!  But I get over it.

Sometimes I find a better product to take its place.  Sometimes I don’t. But I guess that’s life, right?

But any company, Avon included, has to keep innovating and staying with the time, or they become irrelevant.

I was a buyer for many years, and so I totally understand the value of a warehouse slot.

You can’t keep an item in the slot that isn’t selling enough because that’s a slot that could be used for something that will sell a lot more.

And we’re talking big numbers here.  The slow moving item might still be selling thousands a month, but the faster moving items might be selling hundreds of thousands a month.

Things change

As much as it might seem like a positive trait, being headstrong and rigid isn’t always the best thing for success.

Life is always unpredictable, and as much as you might think you’ll know exactly how a project or anything is going to work, it might not go that way.

If you can’t make that change, you’re going to end up failing because you’ll be going against the grain.

By being flexible, you’ll be able to adapt to any unexpected changes that might come up while you’re working on something important.

Flexibility comes in many different forms.

For some, it means adapting on the fly.

For example, if you’re working a project and one of the people working on it with you suddenly can’t work anymore, you’ll need to find a replacement quickly.

That’s not something that you can realistically plan for, since you never know who could get sick or injured, but you’ll just have to work fast and go with it.

In another way, you can have contingency plans in place so that when a sudden change does arise, you’ll be able to reference that plan and quickly work to resolve that issue.

For example, if you know that one part of your project might not be able to get done as originally planned, have a different way of doing it in place as a backup, so that if your first option fails, you aren’t left in a lurch.

This, of course, can’t work in all situations, but it certainly helps reduce the panicked feeling you might get when something goes wrong.

Some of the traits I’ve seen in successful people…

Instead of holding on to how they wish things were, they embrace how things are by appreciating those things that are going right in their lives.

Successful people adapt quickly to new situations and tend to be prepared at all times with a Plan A, B & C (and D if necessary).  They know they have the whole alphabet if they need it!

They stay in control.  They pause before reacting.

They understand that there are many solutions to any given situation, and they take the time to gather information before choosing their best option.

They think on their feet.  They aren’t afraid to change their opinions as they take in new information.

They trust themselves.  They have a strong sense of themselves, and they trust and follow their inner voice.

They know that they will find a way to make it happen.

It’s important to be flexible about changes

Something important to realize about being flexible is that you’re going to have to accept the change openly.

None of us like change!  Seriously!  But it’s inevitable.

So, even if it’s not a change that you want to happen, you’re going to have far more success if you work with the change rather than against it.

If you’re working against it, then you’ll find that you might not be able to reverse the change and will have wasted your time trying to cheat the system.

And that’s not going to get you anywhere.

Now I’d love to hear from you.

Are you generally pretty flexible?

What kinds of things help you to adapt when you run into changes, especially those you don’t like?
